I created this painting with my best friend. First, we used chalk pastels to create the sunset. That didn't give us the look we wanted, so we revised by going over it with watercolor paint. That gave it an extra matte effect, which we really liked. Next, we outlined the mountains with calligraphy pens and ink, then filled that in with acrylic paints, along with the ocean beneath it.
Engage & Persist- When things went wrong, or changed, we just went with it. As Bob Ross says, "There are no mistakes, only happy accidents." And there were no major unexpected twists or turns in the process of making this piece.
"The Most Dangerous Game" acrylics
We read "The Most Dangerous Game" in English, and we had to make a movie poster for it. We painted on black acrylics first, to demonstrate that it was night. When that dried, we painted the trees in a variety of colors & brushes. Envision: We had to come up with actors to play the roles of the main characters, so we tried to get creative. We picked ridiculous choices for the actors, such as Rob Kardashian. We also determined what resources we needed by trying out the different materials on a scrap piece of paper first, so we didn't make a big mistake on the fancy, expensive paper.
Splashy Bass Clef paper maché
To make this bass clef, I did paper mâché. I chose to do this because I knew it would give the piece a 3-D look. A friend in my art class began an art piece based around the treble clef, so I combated that with the bass clef. Some challenges I faced while making this was how skinny the shape is. Paper mâché is a beast, y'all. It does what it wants. I learned that when splattering acrylic paint, you need to water it down. But not too much. If the water to paint ratio is off, it will end up looking like bird poop, which was NOT the look I was going for. It ended up okay, though. I'm pretty happy with it!
Glorious Guitar acrylics
I recently moved, and found my dad's old guitar in the process. One of the strings was missing, and I found it was impossible to tune it. So I brought it into art, and spent a long time figuring out what to paint on it. I finally decided on an ombré blue, from light to dark. There were a few challenges along the way, too. A few of my friends were trying to tune it, and broke one string, and then my brother broke the other. Also, after the first layer of paint dried, I realized I needed a second coat. It was really, really difficult to recreate the same shades of blue a day later, so I kinda just repainted over it. I also knew I wanted a quote on it, but I didn't know which one, or how to get it on there. I decided on a Roald Dahl quote, and I painted over it with watercolors. I discovered, while putting the quote on the front, that Mod Podge smells like death.
The Bravest Taco felt
I chose to make this taco a few days ago in class because I wanted tacos. His name is Odysseus, because he is the vision of bravery and strength. I hot glued most of it, because sewing would have taken thirty years. I sewed the outside though, it wouldn't have stayed together with glue. It surprised me that it went so well. He now perches on my bookshelf valiantly.
The Lookin In Watercolor
I started this piece in art a while ago, because I had nothing else to do. I pretty simply painted water color lines across it, which kind of ended blending together at the top. I came back to it recently, but didn't know what to put on there. It didn't take long to decide, though. Back in November-ish, a friend of mine was making a project with song lyrics on it, but she made a mistake. She meant to put "I'm on the outside lookin' in", but she accidentally put "I'm on the looking in." It still makes us laugh, so I used that as my quote.
Fire Heads paper and paint and stuff
I chose to do this because... I don't know why. I took pictures of my friends, and painted some fire over them. Then I found an inspirational quote to write on there, and BOOM. To be honest though, I don't like this. I might keep working on it, so I'm gonna stop here.
Resist watercolors
Last week, I had nothing to do. Somehow that lead me to painting a fist. After that, I had no idea what to do with it. I went with resist, but I don't really know why. Then I added watercolor.
